Katie's welcoming, tight-knit family is a convenient substitute for Sarah when her distant parents aren't around, and Sarah's abrasive, goal-oriented personality gels well with Katie's more laid-back approach to life.
But when a misunderstanding leads to the two of them being mistaken for a couple and Sarah uses the situation to her advantage, Katie finds herself on a roller coaster ride of ambiguous sexuality and confusing feelings. that maybe unrequited. Lesbian status Starts out with 2 straight teenagers. Sex Scenes: No. Happy Ending: Yes Best Feature of story: It's an ok story, and the two main characters are fairly well developed.
Enough suspense about their relationship to keep you involved in the story. Worst Features of story It's very YA - feels like it's written by a teenager for a teenager both, in terms of both dialogue and drama oh em gee.
I didn't care much about the supporting cast at all. Any supernatural elements: No. Recommend to: Teenagers ruminating on their sexuality. Would read other books by author, based on this one: No. I think I'm now too old. High school as more than 10 years ago!
I enjoyed the story. It was better than the MTV story. There is a television series using the same premise but I think in the book it starts for a slightly different reason but the "faux" relationship is being used by one of the girls to attract the attention of a boy she has had an interest in for quite some time. It was a pretty light read. My only issue was the length of time it took for the girls to realize that they shared the same feelings. There are typos or some strange sentences but they were not frequent enough to get in the way of the story so I give it 5 stars since it delivers on what I was looking for - romance, love, and a bit of drama.
I was without a book which is a situation I don't care for a bit, so I began looking at author's I liked in the past to see if I had missed anything and this came up. I was not in the mood for a YA, but this was an enjoyable read. The big talk with Katie's parents was humorous and original. Siera Maley has a nice writing style. Her books flow well and I like her characters. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. This book is FRICKING AMAZING!
Like seriously. The characters are amazingly written, with such depth of their emotions that is so easily relatable; being a gay woman I thought they really showed what it's like to realise you're gay, I mean it's bloody brutal sometimes! The story arch was just awesome, my heart about exploded! When it happened I swear my cheeks were on fire from this smile I kept. I recommend everyone to read it, like NOW! This author is just awesome; this is the second book I've read by her, purely by chance and I was not disappointed ONE BIT!
Hot damn, this may be my new favourite book, favourite anything. Best two day obsession ever. One person found this helpful. I really enjoyed this book, the humor in it was great, it honestly had me laughing at the banter between the characters. I liked the way the story developed and how the characters became aware of what they were feeling, it wasn't so black and white. Report abuse. If you're looking for an lgbt book with a happy ending, I would definitely recommend this one.
A super cute, fluffy YA lesbian contemporary. A happy ending and a super-duper shippable romance. I will be reading more of Siera Maley's books for sure. Really interesting and very well written account of finding out who you are and how you fit in to the very tough and confusing world of adolescent life. Bad enough if you are heterosexual but what if you are gay, bi' or not sure what you are! Well worth a read and a good reminder of how difficult it can all be.
A really well written novel that reads from the first person perspective, this really helps to put yourself into the main characters shoes and allows the empathy to flow, making the story all the more real. This was afreakingdorable. It really is Faking It in a YA, and was so happy-making my toes literally curled while I was reading. flag 22 likes · Like · see review. View 2 comments. Feb 27, Pam Holzner rated it really liked it Shelves: romance. This is a YA fauxmance involving 2 best friends who love each other and then fall "in love" with each other as a result of the faking.
I really enjoyed the beginning and the end. In the middle it felt a bit more like a coming of age, drama, but you know you can't have a super sweet ending without a little tart taste just before. flag 12 likes · Like · see review. Sep 25, P. Katie and Sarah have been best friends since they were both in primary school; they might as well be joined at the hip, each complimenting the other in ways they now take for granted. This closeness lands them in hot water when they are mistaken for a lesbian couple and dragged along unwittingly to the LGBT club. Although initially puzzled by these turns of events, Sarah decides to take advantage of the situation to get a hot bloke to notice her.
Katie, protesting, is pulled along with her. As t Katie and Sarah have been best friends since they were both in primary school; they might as well be joined at the hip, each complimenting the other in ways they now take for granted. As the story unfolds, they both find the pressures of being openly out an unpleasant new experience - and even more worryingly for Katie, reality and pretend seem to be blurring into each other.
How can she figure out what's going on with herself, fool the entire school, and prevent Sarah from noticing the new weirdness? Firstly I would agree with other reviewers when they remark on this plot's similarity to "Faking It", the TV show on MTV.
Although the premise is initially off-putting and strained! once the plot starts flowing it is a surprisingly nuanced discussion regarding the perils of coming out, and its effects on one's social circles. One of the best of the subplots involves a gentleman who gains courage from seeing his supposedly newly out acquaintances weather the storm. The themes are worked through with a lot of lightness and humour - I often found myself laughing openly at some of the duologue.
It did lose a star for the incredibly forced nature of the set-up. Who pretends to be a lesbian to get a boy? Did I miss a whole chapter in the art of seduction which suggests that's a good idea? I don't know. The other problem was the ending - I am not going to spoil anything, except to say mostly in that section of the book I winced heavily and wished the premise had been pulled apart earlier.
Happily it has a relatively happy epilogue, which puts it at the top of my list for young, well-adjusted teens needing some encouragement in a weird time. So in summary this is a well-written book for young adults that's reasonably thoughtful in addressing certain important themes for people questioning their sexuality. It also has certain problematic elements, which shouldn't stop anyone from reading the book. Four stars. flag 9 likes · Like · see review.

I heard this is MTV's Faking It done right. This book is so cute and sapphic. It made me cry a lot. Let's blame it on the election. Trope: Best friends to lovers. Sweet moments but the angst parts affect in my opinion the real meaning of love. I'm referring specifically to one of the lead characters.
